Graduate Student Awards Competition
To enhance the educational experience of graduate students involved in global change science at the University of Toronto, the Centre for Global Change Science offers a “Graduate Student Research Award” program. These awards are made on a competitive basis to graduate students at the University of Toronto for projects that broaden the students' research experience in a manner not possible within the scope of their current degree program. Examples of activities that could be funded include, but are not limited to: attendance at specialized summer schools, short-term visits to research groups outside UofT, projects that foster new interdisciplinary relationships between research groups from different departments at UofT, field work, attendance at scientific conferences that would not normally be sponsored by the research supervisor.

The maximum amount available is $5,000CDN. Only one graduate student per supervisor will be granted the CGCS Graduate Award.
How to Apply:
- Curriculum vitae,
- Two-page proposal that describes:
i) the objectives of the research project within the context of the student's graduate program,
ii) the manner by which the project will enhance the graduate student experience, and
iii) the justification for why the project could not be completed within the current scope of the student's graduate program,
3. One-page budget and budget justification (an example is available). Research expenses thoroughly to account for peak travel season and currency exchange. Please use UofT's Per Diem Rates where applicable,
4. Letter of support from the student's graduate supervisor,
All files must have the applicant's first and last name and the file type (eg proposal, budget, letter of support etc).
*Applications for EGU 2024 are eligible for this award.
Additional Information:
It is important to note the following conditions of the award.
1) Graduate awards are delivered by reimbursement of expenses with receipts in adherence with UofT's Guide to Financial Management.
2) Successful applicants cannot reallocate funds from one budget category to another. For instance, if a category is underspent, the remainder cannot be put towards another category.
3) Successful applicants who overspend in categories will need to cover the costs themselves or through their supervisor.
4) Successful applicants must attend all CGCS Distinguished Lectures for 2024-2025.
